The first collaboration between Dr. de Villiers and I, "Thank You, Doctor Ophelia!" is about Doctor Ophelia, a veterinarian who helps convince the animals in a zoo that their unique biology is what makes them special. In addition to teaching a fun lesson about self-acceptance, Doctor Ophelia is a book that gives children repeated experience with complex sentences that advance their understanding of other’s minds. "Thank You, Doctor Ophelia" has been embraced by the international linguistics community and has been translated from English into Sesotho, Spanish, French, isiXhosa, Mandarin, Setswana and Shona. It is currently being translated for Dutch and International Sign Language.

Biptag Baby

Our second collaboration, "Biptag Baby" (in production), is a much simpler story about a toddler who attends his first birthday party and becomes obsessed with them, trying to tell his family but only able to use the word "biptag". "Biptag Baby" is designed to delight children by the false assumptions that parents make about what a baby means with their first words.
